The road provides a link between Nongoma and uPhongolo towns, it is situated within Osuthu and Ntshangase Traditional Authority areas in Nongoma and uPhongolo Local Municipalities under Zululand District Municipality.

This project involves the upgrade of an existing gravel section to blacktop including the widening of Nkunzana River Bridge and construction of three new culverts as well as a new bridge over the Mkuze River. The project extends from km 18.7 end ends at km 24.5.
